Michelle Hirschhorn is an independent practitioner who has worked within the visual arts as a curator, producer, writer and arts consultant. She is interested in cross-disciplinary practice, working mostly within the fields of new media, artist film & video and live art. Based in Newcastle Upon Tyne since 1995, she worked as the Curator of Zone Gallery until 1998 and has been working in a freelance capacity on solo and collaborative projects ever since.

Selected recent projects include: Associate New Media Curator, Isis Arts, development and delivery of 2004/05 new media programme, including commissions and artist/curator joint residencies, Newcastle (www.isisarts.org.uk/crisis); Project Development Manager for pylon, a small group of new media installation artists, North West UK, 2003 - present (www.pylon.tv); Production Manager for Clinic, a major audio installation by the artist Susan Hiller, commissioned by BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, 2003/04 (www.balticmill.com); Curator of connecting principle, a 48 hour event featuring time-based work by over 20 artists & musicians at Newcastle University, 2002 (www.ncl.ac.uk/connectingprinciple); Curator for The Big M, an inflatable and mobile venue for the presentation of video & digital media produced by Isis Arts (touring programmes for 2000 and 2002).
